What is Damp Proofing?
Damp Proofing is a treatment we at EX10 can apply to prevent moisture from passing through walls, floors, and other building components. It's commonly used to protect structures from rising damp—a form of moisture that rises from the ground into the building materials, potentially causing structural damage and health issues like mold growth.
What is Water Ingress?
Water Ingress refers to the unwanted penetration of water into a building from external sources, such as rain, flooding, or plumbing leaks. It can occur through gaps, cracks, or faults in the building’s envelope, like roofs, walls, windows, or foundations. Water ingress can lead to serious problems, including structural damage, deterioration of materials, and mold growth, compromising both the building's integrity and indoor air quality.

What does Damp Proofing involve?
Damp proofing is a process that prevents moisture from entering a building and causing damage to its structure. Damp proofing can be done in a number of ways, including:
Damp-proof course (DPC): A physical barrier that's installed in masonry walls to prevent rising damp.
Damp-proof membrane (DPM): A material applied to walls, floors, and basements to prevent water from penetrating.
Integral damp proofing: Waterproofers are added to the concrete mix to make the concrete itself moisture resistant.
Renders and surface coating: Waterproof materials are applied to resist non-pressurized moisture, such as rainwater.
Improved ventilation and insulation: Systems are installed to reduce condensation and improve airflow.
Drainage system repairs: Repairs are made to drainage systems.
Is Damp Proofing required by code?
Yes, Damp proofing internal walls and external walls require all work to be carried out in strict accordance with BS8215: Code of Practice for Design and Installation of Damp-Proof Courses in Masonry Construction.
